Ivan Ustinovich Kharchenko ((ウクライナ語:Іван Устинович Харченко), 23 September 1918 - 1 July 1989) was a Soviet Army Military engineering Colonel. During World War II commander of a platoon. Received his first officer's grade Unterleutnant in 1941, since 1943—Second lieutenant, since 1944—First lieutenant. Personally neutralized more than 50 000 of explosive items, including bombs, mines, shells.
For his heroic deeds was named a Hero of the Soviet Union and awarded the Gold Star and Order of Lenin on 2 November 1944. In the nomination for an Hero of the Soviet Union award is was stated that Ivan Ustinovich Kharchenko personally neutralized more than 1500 bombs more than 500 kg of weight each and 25000 of other explosive items.
After World War II Ivan Ustinovich Kharchenko continued his military service until resignation in 1964. Until 1956 he was personally engaged in rendering innocuous of explosive items left from the time of World War II.〔http://www.warheroes.ru/hero/hero.asp?Hero_id=4665〕
In 1961 the battalion under the command of Ivan Ustinovich lead a rescue operation during the Kurenivka tragedy.
